There are certain cases within Oral Surgery and Implantology practice where
the Ortho-Pantograph (OPG) x-ray does not reveal enough anatomical
information to allow us to perform a procedure. In these cases we can use
the services of a CAT scan system.
Computerised (Axial) Tomography , sometimes called CAT scan (or CT scan),
uses special x-ray equipment to obtain many images from different angles and
then joins them together to show a cross-section of the jaws, nerves or
maxillary sinuses and other anatomical landmarks.
Quick and non-invasive, CAT scanning is used in medicine and dentistry as an
aid to diagnosis, helping to pinpoint potential problem areas without the
need for exploratory surgery.
